Combine sightseeing and rafting on this relaxing excursion. Enjoy a beautiful 10-mile drive along the coast to the Dyea valley, an old Gold Rush settlement, now returned to nature. On the drive, you may spot seals and eagles. See the start of the famous Chilkoot Trail where thousands journeyed in pursuit of gold. As you float down the gentle Taiya River, your guide will point out any wildlife (Bald Eagles are common, bears sometimes seen at certain times of year-though wildlife sightings are not guaranteed) and tell stories of the area’s fascinating history while you enjoy the gorgeous river and mountain views. Enjoy a riverside snack after the float. We also stop at the Skagway scenic overlook for a panoramic view of the town (time permitting). Dyea is a peaceful getaway from bustling Skagway and a perfect opportunity to feel part of the great Alaskan outdoors.
This tour lasts approximately 2 hours 15 minutes-2.5 hours with about 35- 45 minutes on the river (depending on water levels). The Scenic River Float is suitable for all ages/ skill levels.
Maximum group size is 11 per raft. If your group is larger, we can divide into 2 rafts for the tour. (The second raft may have additional customers).
